Autobody & Glass Repairs

FAQ

Got a question before you drop it in?

We get asked the same things week in, week out. Here's what most people want to know before they pick a panel shop.

  • Is the quote free?

Yes, every panel and paint quote is free and no obligation. Flick us a photo, drop the vehicle in, or give Liana a ring. We'll come back with a number, usually same day.

  • How long does a typical job take?

Depends on the job. A small dent or chip might be a couple of days. A full panel and paint respray on a motorhome can run two to three weeks. We'll give you a clear timeline before we touch the vehicle.

  • Can you fit my motorhome, truck or bus?

Yes. We've got an 18-metre heated spray booth, one of the largest in Canterbury, built for big vehicles other shops can't fit. We handle motorhomes, buses, trucks, caravans, horse floats and heavy vehicles.

  • Can I choose Autobody for my insurance claim?

Yes, you can. In New Zealand, you have the right to choose the panel shop for your insurance repair. Just tell your insurer you want Autobody & Glass Repairs in Christchurch, and we'll take it from there.

  • Do you deal with the insurance company directly?

Yes. We handle the assessor, the insurance paperwork and the back-and-forth with your insurer. You drop the vehicle off and we'll sort the rest.

  • Will the paint match the rest of my vehicle?

Yes. We use factory colour-match every time. Our in-house paint mixing room reads the original colour code and blends to spec, so the repaired panel won't look any different to the rest of the vehicle.

  • Do you do motorhome and caravan work?

Yes, motorhome and caravan repairs are one of our specialities. Hail damage, full resprays, panel repairs, and fibreglass work. The 18m booth in our Christchurch workshop was built for the big units other shops won't take.

  • What about trucks, buses and heavy vehicles?

Yes. We do panel and paint work, coachbuilding and repairs on trucks, buses, horse floats and farm machinery. If it fits through the workshop doors in Belfast, we'll sort it.

  • Do you work on classic cars and restorations?

Yes. Classic car restoration is one of our oldest jobs. Darryl trained as a coachbuilder through NZ Railways and has 40+ years on restorations. We work old vehicles back to original spec or better.

  • Do you do coachbuilding and fabrication?

Yes. Custom panel fabrication, fibreglass repairs and coachbuilding all done in-house, no subcontracting out. Darryl's coachbuilding trade backs every job.

  • Can you pick up my vehicle?

Give Liana a ring and we'll work it out. For some jobs we can arrange pickup, for others it's easier if you drop in. We'll talk logistics before anything else.

  • Will I see progress photos while you've got my vehicle?

Yes. We send photos at every stage of the job, so you know what's happening with your vehicle the whole way through. No drop-off mystery.

  • Is your work guaranteed?

Yes. Every job is backed by our workmanship guarantee. If something's not right after the vehicle leaves the workshop, bring it back and we'll sort it.

  • What insurance companies do you work with?

All major New Zealand insurers, including AA, Vero, IAG, Tower, State, AMI and more. If your insurer is registered in NZ, we'll work with them.

  • Do you do small jobs, like a single dent or scratch?

Yes. No job too small. A single dent, a chip in the paint, a scratch in the door, we'll sort it. Flick us a photo and we'll quote it.
